Talk To Me New Movie 2023

 INTRODUCTION :

Talk to Me is a Australian supernatural horror film directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, in their feature film directorial debut. Written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman from a concept by Daley Pearson, the film stars Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, and Miranda Otto.

Talk to Me had its preview screening at the 2022 Adelaide Film Festival, followed by its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival on 22 January 2023. It was theatrically released in Australia on 27 July 2023 and internationally the following day. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised its story, horror sequences, practical effects, and performances.

PLOT :

A young man, Cole, stumbles through a crowded house party as he attempts to locate his brother Duckett, who is injured. While Cole is escorting him out, Duckett stabs Cole before fatally stabbing himself.

17-year-old Mia is struggling with the second anniversary of her mother Rhea's suicide and her emotionally distant relationship with her father, Max. She finds solace in her best friend Jade's family, consisting of Jade's mother and little brother Riley. Mia, Jade, and Riley sneak out to a party hosted by Hayley and Joss. The main attraction is a mysterious severed embalmed hand, which they use to conjure spirits by lighting a candle and saying, "Talk to me," which allows them to meet the spirit. Next, they say "I let you in" for full possession; the candle is blown out after 90 seconds to "close the door"; otherwise, the spirits will stay. Mia goes first and is possessed by a spirit that threatens Riley. The spirit resists the group when they try to blow out the candle; they succeed, though not until after the 90 second deadline.

The group plays again at Jade's house the next night, where young Riley volunteers. He is possessed by Rhea's spirit, who speaks to Mia. Mia stops the group from blowing out the candle and the time limit is exceeded. Riley's body is overtaken by the spirits and he brutally smashes his face and nearly takes out his own eye. He is hospitalised while the rest of the group is traumatised. Mia, now haunted by visions of a ghostly Rhea, is turned away by Jade and her mother Sue, who blame her for Riley's injuries. She seeks comfort in Jade's boyfriend Daniel, whom she used to date and still has feelings for, but assaults him after being possessed in her sleep. She uses the embalmed hand to contact Rhea, who tells her that her death was accidental and Mia needs to help Riley. Riley is still possessed, attacking Jade at the hospital and violently self-harming.

The friends track down Cole, who reveals that the spirits will weaken the longer they stay in Riley’s body so they need to wait it out, though Jade fears the spirits will kill Riley before that. Mia deduces that they need to complete the ritual by blowing out the candle, which they failed to do the first time. They contact the spirit of a little girl who shows Mia a vision of Riley being tortured by the spirits. Max reads Rhea's suicide note to Mia and apologizes for having hidden it from her. Rhea's ghost tells Mia that Max is lying before she is attacked by an evil spirit in the form of her father. Mia inadvertently stabs her real father in the neck with scissors.

After being told by Rhea that Riley needs to die in order to be set free, Mia tricks Jade and Sue into leaving and enters Riley's hospital room, where he takes the appearance of a rotting spirit. She finds herself unable to kill him. Jade finds a bleeding Max at Mia's house and returns to the hospital just as Mia leaves with Riley in a wheelchair. The spirits attempt to convince Mia to push Riley into oncoming traffic. Mia instead throws herself in front of traffic, causing a car crash.

An injured Mia regains consciousness. Wandering the hospital, she sees a fully healed Riley with Jade and Sue. As she attempts to reach Max, who has survived his injury, she instead finds herself on the other side of another embalmed hand as partygoers play the game, realizing she has died and become a spirit herself.

PRODUCTION :

Talk to Me is a co-production of Causeway Films, Bankside Films, and Talk to Me Holdings, and is a presentation of Screen Australia in association with the South Australian Film Corporation, Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund, Head Gear Films, and Metrol Technology.[5][6] Directors Danny and Michael Philippou worked closely with producer Samantha Jennings, one of the co-founders of production company Causeway Films, who is familiar with Adelaide. They knew her from working with her on The Babadook, another Causeway Films production, and credit her with keeping them grounded and helping to shape the film.[7]

The film is set in the filmmakers' hometown of Adelaide, South Australia.[8] It relies largely on plot rather than special effects, sudden scares, or gore.[7] The Philippou brothers have said that they are committed to filming, or at least doing post production, in Australia for all future projects.[7]

RELEASE :

Talk to Me sold to numerous international distributors at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.[9] It had its debut in a preview screening at the Adelaide Film Festival on 30 October 2022, the closing night of the festival.[10][11]

The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in its midnight lineup.[12] After the premiere spurred a bidding war with Universal Pictures and others, A24 won and acquired the rights to distribute the film in the United States.[13][14] Maslow Entertainment, Umbrella Entertainment and Ahi Films were confirmed to be co-distributing the film in Australia and New Zealand.[15]

The film had its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival and also screened at South by Southwest (SXSW) that the same year.[16][17][18][19] The film also had its Canadian premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival on 23 July 2023.[20][21]

Sonam Bajwa and Tania smash the patriarchy in this rib-tickling film that highlights the silent suffering of women.
It’s hard to imagine weddings today without the participation of women. Yet, sadly, in the not-so-distant past, there was a time when traditionally in Punjab, women (especially in the villages) did not accompany the baraat (groom’s wedding procession). The latest Punjabi release, Godday Godday Chaa examines this commonly observed practice, wherein women would stay behind and be denied a part in the merriment.
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, whose last release Kali Jotta (2023) took a hard look at patriarchy and gender violence, Godday Godday Chaa delves into the myriad ways in which societal norms and toxic masculinity shrivels the lives of women, suffocating them and denying them the ability to just be themselves. However, unlike the former, this is a more light-hearted, entertaining take on the issue.
Sonam Bajwa (Rani) is an educated woman who wishes to pursue her studies and get a job but she is married off instead to Bagga (Gitaj Bindrakhia). When she reaches her in-laws’ home, she realises that the women long to be included in wedding festivities but society (basically men) does not permit them to do so.

PLOT OF STORY :

This is a film based on weddings and marriages, specifically set in the 1990s. In that decade, it was considered forbidden for women to participate in wedding processions, and it was also forbidden for the groom’s mother to sit on the sherwani (a type of traditional Indian garment worn by men).

However, in this film, both actresses will come together and showcase their work in such a way that they can potentially change this age-old practice.

PAST LIVES MOVIE 2023

INTRO :

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2023, and was released in the United States on June 2, 2023, by A24. It received near universal acclaim from critics singling out Song's direction and screenplay, and the performances of Lee, Yoo, and Magaro.
Past Lives is a 2023 American romantic drama film written and directed by Celine Song in her feature directorial debut. The film stars Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and John Magaro, and follows a reunion between two childhood friends as they contemplate their relationship and their own lives

PLOT :

Hae Sung, Nora, and Arthur are sitting at a bar while an unseen couple watches them and guesses their relationships with each other.

Twenty-four years earlier in South Korea, Na Young and Hae Sung are classmates who walk home together each day. Na Young's family immigrates to Toronto, where she changes her name to Nora.

Twelve years later, Hae Sung has finished his military service and Nora has immigrated to New York City. One day, Nora and her mother speak on the phone while looking up her classmates from Korea. When she looks up Hae Sung, she sees that he had commented on a Facebook post that he was looking for Na Young, not realizing she had changed her name. They reconnect and talk over Skype and both ask the other to come visit them, though neither can commit, as Nora is about to attend a writer's retreat and Hae Sung is moving to China for a language exchange. Nora tells Hae Sung they should stop talking for a while, as she wants to seriously focus on her writing.

At her writer's retreat, Nora meets Arthur and describes the Korean concept of in-yeon (인연) to him, where if you meet someone, even briefly, it means you also met in a past life, and lovers are people who have met over and over in their past lives. Arthur asks if she believes in that, and she says no, that it is just something Koreans say to seduce each other. In China, Hae Sung meets a woman, and it is implied they begin dating.

Twelve years later, Arthur and Nora are married and living in New York. Nora is a playwright and Arthur is an author. Hae Sung is planning a trip to New York and meets Nora there. She asks him if he plans to marry his girlfriend, and he says that they are on a break because he does not make enough money, deeming himself ordinary.

At home that night, Nora confirms Arthur's suspicion that Hae Sung came to New York not on vacation but to see her. Arthur wonders if he is a roadblock in their perfect love story, but Nora affirms that she loves Arthur. The next night, all three of them go out to dinner and end up at the bar from the start of the film. Initially, Nora tries to translate a conversation for everyone, but eventually, she and Hae Sung speak exclusively in Korean. He brings up in-yeon and wonders what they were to each other in their past lives, and also what would have happened if she had never left Korea. When Nora goes to the bathroom, Hae Sung apologizes to Arthur and says they will not speak alone again.

They leave the bar and return to Arthur and Nora's apartment. Hae Sung invites them to visit him in Korea and calls an Uber. Nora waits with him, and as tension rises and there is a heightened emotional connection between the two, the Uber arrives. Hae Sung says that maybe they are currently experiencing a past life, and asks Nora what their relationship will be in their next life. She says she does not know, and he says the same. When he leaves in the car, she walks back to her apartment, where she cries and falls into Arthur's arms.

In January 2020, it was announced Choi Woo-shik would star in the film, with Celine Song set to direct from a screenplay she wrote, and A24 set to produce and distribute alongside Killer Films and CJ ENM.[4] In August 2021, Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro joined the cast of the film, with Yoo replacing Choi.[5]
